He had a regular upbringing , with a love of music evident from an early age. Listening to his parent \'s classical music at home, his talent for singing was soon noted upon by his friends and family. Laurence \'s education and early career followed a conventional path with no thought of pursuing singing as a career evident at this stage. Laurence first become an accountant, moving into sales and marketing in the 1990 \'s. Blossoming Career Laurence met and married his wife Hazel, subsequently having two children. During this period Laurence began to develop his singing as a passionate hobby entering singing contests and training his tenor voice through professional coaching. This was a busy time, selling financial services by day, and singing for his company \'s corporate events at weekends. Having begun singing in public on a regular basis, Laurence realised he should seek to promote his talent professionally if he wished to pursue his career as a tenor. Then in 2001, fate played a hand in what was to be a catalyst of change: He was made redundant from the company he worked for. With the support of his wife, Hazel, Laurence set up as a professional singer full time. It was a gamble but, as Laurence himself says for the first time, I could really go for it and follow my dream The Present Hard work is finally beginning to pay off. Laurence has featured in a number of publications and newspapers. His performances at many high profile sporting events, and television appearances has generated interest and publicity. His first demo album was released in June, with backing from the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. A record deal with a major label looks like catapulting Laurence into the premier league of tenors. His speaking voice was salesman-smooth but regular in pitch and resonance. She basically said that I \'d got an exceptional tenor voice and that I really, really had to do something with it. He sounds freshly incredulous as he tells this. Robinson entered amateur singing contests and won every one until, to his complete disbelief , he got to the Millennium Festival at Leeds, the biggest amateur event in the country. And I won that. And I knew then that this was what I wanted to do. So I set about it and I \'ve not looked back since. Perfect pitch By Emma Brockes (Filed The Guardian 26/02/2002) A mobile phone salesman who packed in his job to pursue a career in music will complete a remarkable 12 months tomorrow when he sings in front of 80,000 people at football \'s Worthington Cup final. Laurence Robinson, 38, gambled his career on becoming an opera singer, and is now being tipped as a rising star in classical music. Paul Batemen, a producer who has helped the careers of Russel Watson and Lesley garrett said “Laurence is on the right lines to make it to the very top. He undoubtedly has a terrific voice” Millions to watch tenor find calling By Nick Britten (Filed Telegraph: 23/02/2002) Singing sensation Laurence Robinson will step out in front of a 70,000 crowd and his dream of becoming an international celebrity will be one step closer.......Now he is on track to become the biggest opera singer Britain has ever seen. “I sang to 80,000 at the recent Worthington Cup final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff and new offers are coming in all the time. But even after five years of training I \'m still learning. They say that it takes ten years to perfect a voice and now I know why” No Nessun around as Laurence wows \'em By KarenStuart (Filed The Sun 26/04/2002) Salesman turns singer When I said I was going to go full time into singing I did get the odd laugh from certain people and now the fun of it is proving them wrong and realising my dream. . BBC Homepage (Beds, Herts and Bucks ) Laurence Is Back After the great reception he received at the Bologna game, we have also invited back tenor Laurence Robinson to give some more spine-tingling performances. This time you will all have a part to play too as we go for the biggest ever sing-along of Jerusalem (well, the biggest one in Watford anyway). www.saracens.com Robinson sets tenor for Albion Feb 2 2004 West Bromwich Albion supporters were treated to not one, but two excellent performances. First world-renowned tenor Laurence Robinson whipped up the atmosphere at The Hawthorns before kick-off with a rousing ten-minute set - featuring classics like Nessun Dorma and the club \'s anthem The Lord is my Shepherd. James Nursey, Birmingham Post Hysteria at Heathrow BAA had even laid on an operatic tenor, Laurence Robinson, to sing them in. Mr Robinson is a veteran of such sporting occasions, but even he was overawed by it all today. This is probably the best gig I \'ve ever sung at, he said. It was just after 5am when he started going through is paces - Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, naturally, including the verses the fans did not know, and a clutch of other crowdpleasers including I Vow To Thee My Country and Jerusalem. But it was not long before he was drowned out by the cheers of the fans as one by one the team emerged from customs.
